The journey begins…
Brooke Tyson, the brand, was born in 2006 when the creative young designer released her first collection ‘Folklore’. Devoted to playing dressups as a kid, and having spent her teenage years making outfits for herself and others, the idea to create her own label evolved quite naturally. Armed with a strong vision, Brooke built on her finely developed sewing and pattern-making skills and channeled her innate sense of style into realising her dream: creating her own brand of fashion.
Her story unfolds
Brooke’s third season was exhibited at Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2007 where it not only captured the attention of a number of boutique outlets, but claimed the hearts of many followers who have grown to be loyal customers.
Among the label’s followers are actress Keisha Castle-Hughes, singers Sarah Brown, Tyra Hammond from Opensouls, and singer/songwriter Reb Fountain who was also the model and muse for Brooke’s Summer 2010 collection.
Dream-like imagery
Brooke’s eclectic mixture of influences has meant subtle changes to her style over the years. Her collections are inspired by a love of music, movies, art, ethnic and tribal cultures, and a passion for travel. The label blurs the lines between art and fashion.
Her look has always been a little bit folk and a little bit romantic; whimsical and mischievous, dramatic but unpretentious and feminine with a raw edge. Brooke’s designs drape and skim the body to accentuate form and movement and with their bright colours, distinctive prints and gorgeous textures, the collections are refreshing and fun.
Celebrating the ‘wild at heart’, every one of Brooke’s garments is designed and made with love and incredible attention to detail. Many of the designs have intricate, handmade inserts and are hand finished in her studio in the bohemian settlement of Puhoi, north of Auckland. This allows Brooke to perfect each item in her range and stay true to her pure, creative vision: the cornerstone of her successful collections.
